About Us

The Finer Strings are a London-based music duo featuring violinist Carrie Penn and cellist Katie Ellwood. Both have enjoyed successful careers performing for weddings, concerts and special events, and have recorded for film, television, and games. Their most recent credits include Adam Price's score for the upcoming TV series: The Crow Girl; and Grierson Award-nominated documentary Beyond These Walls, composed by Diogo Chaves.

Carrie Penn
 

As a soloist and orchestral musician, Caroline has participated in a wide range of performances, from solo recitals, to busking across Europe, to accompanying the world's first Grime Opera. She is an experienced session musician, and frequently performs at weddings and events. Carrie holds a first-class BA in Music from the University of Oxford and DipLCM, ATCL and LTCL diplomas in violin performance. During her time studying at Oxford University, she was awarded the Camerata String Scholarship from St Anne's College and a performance scholarship from Oxford's contemporary music group, Ensemble ISIS.

Katie Ellwood

Katie is a cellist and composer. Having completed a BMus in Music Technology at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire of Music alongside performing on the cello, she frequently records for film, television and game projects. An avid performer, she has played concerts at the Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall amongst others. Her credits include ITV's Coma, and Reliable Source Music's new album, Whisper's of the Hills.​​ She has been playing the cello since the age of six, honing her skills across a wide range of musical genres.
